Open-source software for artist-run culture

A place for
artist-run spaces
and the artists in them.

Run your programme. Publish your site. Find each other.

artistrun.space is built on Cocoso, free and open-source software made so artists and artist-run spaces can organise their work and find one another — across the room, and across the world.

Three things, working as one

Most spaces stitch these together from three or four separate apps. Here they're one system, so they actually talk to each other.

01

A public website

Your programme, your pages, your press — visible to anyone, and updated automatically as you work, not as a separate chore.

02

A private intranet

Calendars, bookings, documents and groups — a productivity tool for collaborating with your own team, kept away from public view.

03

A social media

Member profiles, portfolios, direct messages, and a network of other spaces and artists — social media that answers to your community, not an algorithm.

Free to join, for anyone

Your own page. Your own network.

Make a profile for your practice — images, video, sound, a bit of writing about what you do. Then see who else is nearby, or across the world, doing something similar. It costs nothing, for as long as you just want a page in the network.

  • A page for your work, public or private, yours to keep
  • Open calls and residencies posted by member spaces
  • A way for other artists and spaces to find and contact you

Want more — your own website, with its own programme, calendar and bookings? That's a subscription, open to spaces, collectives and solo artists alike.

For spaces, collectives — and solo artists too

What a space gets

The day-to-day tools — a calendar, a way to take bookings, a place for your members, and a website that updates itself as you go. Works just as well for a solo practice as it does for a whole collective.

Public Programme

Events & RSVP

Publish performances, exhibitions, workshops and concerts. People register online, and you check them in at the door. A recurring event only needs one entry, so nothing gets duplicated.

Public Events RSVP Recurring Dates Email Confirmations Attendance
Performance with colourful stage lighting

Shared Resources

Resources & Booking Calendar

List studios, rehearsal rooms, equipment and shared spaces on one live calendar. Members see what's actually free and book it themselves — no email back-and-forth, no double bookings.

Portfolio & Works

Showcase Artist Work

Every member gets a page for their own practice — images, video, sound, a few words of description. It can stay private, be shown just to the space, or be visible across the network.

Roles & Access

Members Management

Keep track of who's who — artists, teachers, organisers — and give each person the right access. Verify members, assign admins, and keep one clear directory instead of a scattered contact list.

Ongoing Work

Groups & Processes

For work that unfolds over time — a residency, a study circle, an ensemble, a working group. Each one gets its own space: its own members, a document library, group chat, meetings and events, all on one page.

Private Communication

Encrypted One-to-One Messaging

Message another member directly, one to one, without it living in a public feed or a third-party app. It's encrypted, and it stays between the two of you.

Reaching People

Email Newsletters

Write an update, pull in your upcoming events automatically, and send it to whoever's subscribed. No separate mailing tool, and nothing new to learn.

How spaces find each other

One space. A whole world of them.

Every member gets a page that others on the network can find — so a residency in Istanbul can find a printmaking studio in Glasgow, a choreographer touring Europe can find a floor to rehearse on in São Paulo, and an open call reaches further than one mailing list. Here's an illustration of what that web of connections could look like.

Free, open-source software

Cocoso started inside a real artist-run dance theatre and co-learning space in Gothenburg — built by people who needed it themselves, to run a shared calendar, member portfolios, resource bookings and a public programme without stitching together five different tools.

It has grown since, through other collectives, alternative schools and cooperatives choosing to use it too — and it has stayed free and open-source. The code is public, nothing is tracked or sold, and any space could self-host it if they wanted to.

artistrun.space is the hosted version, and the network layer, built specifically so artist-run spaces and artists can find each other.

Real humans, on your side.

If your space signs up, you get access to a support team who genuinely understand what it means to run an artist-led space. We help you set up and configure things, and we keep our own workload light on purpose, so the support we give stays real.

We usually get back within a day or two · happy to hop on a call if that's easier
